Birthing class -- TOTAL waste of time and money.

Seriously, people don't know the stuff they teach in these? I'm sorry, but how can you not know this stuff unless you live under a rock? Seriously, our class last night was on diapering, bathing and swaddling. I can't believe I'm paying for this stuff. There were two guys in the class that had never changed a diaper before, but still, their wives had and they could teach them. I am really disappointed in this class. I will admit that I have learned a few things, but certainly not anything worth $110. I haven't learned anything that I wouldn't have just figured out or could have asked my mom or sisters or friends. I suppose I just didn't know what to expect.

Anyway, if you got a lot out of your class, that's great. But personally, I can't believe they charge for these classes.

I'm kinda cranky...sorry for such a cranky blog :(

one of Jeremy's co-worker's wife just gave birth today... and told her hubby that the class was a waste because the nurses told her everything she needed to do and how to do it... and since they still don't know if I will be a c-section yet... i'm going to cancel ours and get our 95 bucks back... hehehe... and then spend this Saturday getting stuff we still need for the baby with that money lol...

That's a much better way to spend your moola! BTW -- I love your blog, the design of it is gorgeous!

I thought the class we took, only the labor and delivery one, was a also a waste. As we learned going through real life, nothing is going to happen the way it should, the way you want, or the way somebody told you. I actually would have rathered go into birthing with no knowledge, just that it comes out! Silly, but a little less stressful if you ask me! Did you fill out the feedback forms that the hospital gave you and tell them you thought it was silly? I would.

We have one more class, and then I will give my opinion, for sure! I kind of would rather go into this blind too. Not totally, I mean, I have a bazillion nieces and nephews, it would be impossible for me not to know some of what goes on, but the class was more for 13 year old girls that get pregnant and don't have a clue, rather than people who actually want a baby and have a home and all that.

I never went to any classes either. There was a prenatal fair I attended with my first and it was free. I just learned from the nurses.

I know in labor this time they would remind you what to do with breathing anyway. Hope the next class is better.

We took ours over the weekend with D. They didn't have time to talk about swaddling and such. I already knew alot of stuff and i did learn a few things but i am glad we took it for Tim's sake. It helped him to learn to be useful during Labour and Delivery. I had lots of back labour and he was able to help with that. What I think they should have a class on is how to recover properly afterward. haveing a nurse say "here is your peri bottle, squirt it on you when you pee." wasn't enough. I could have saved my self a lot of agrivation and perscription drugs the first time around, but I don't think that class should be $110 either.

I never took one, Dev. Didn't have time or money... and it was a cinch. And Joshua didn't come out like the book said! I was afraid to go the hospital and being turned away. Turned out I was at 10 cm when we got there!

The only thing I needed was help breathing, cuz I already have a tendency to hyperventilate. You should see me when I have to get a splinter removed! lol...

Sandra,
I can only dream my labours go like Joshua's did! I remember that day and thinking -- I will never be that lucky! Here, if you don't have the money, the govt will pay for it, but what a waste of $.
Alyson,
Yeah, I can see how it might help some guys for during labour, and maybe we will find out in the long run it did, but I doubt it!

I don't feel like I missed out at all not taking a birthing class. I considered taking one, but I really waited too late to sign up. I'm now really glad I didn't waste my time and money...especially after hearing reviews like yours.

I loved mine, not too practical but I love people watching and the men squirming was worth the $55 ours cost. If you shop around for classes some are better than others.
