I can't believe he is over a month old!!!!

I still can't believe how old he is! As I'm writing this he is falling asleep in his swing for the first time. He has hated his swing until now, so I'm VERY excited about this. Don't get me wrong, I love rocking him to sleep, but it takes a LOT of time out of my day. Once in a while it will be nice to have the swing rock him.

Also, today he had his first bottle. I pumped and gave him his first bottle to see how he did. I have a few weddings to shoot this summer and I need to have him on a bottle so someone else can watch him while I'm shooting. Also, I'm going to the Phantom of the Opera and Brian is going to watch him and I know I'll miss a few feedings then so he needs a bottle.

I also tried the breastfeeding in bed while I'm laying on my side -- LOVE THAT! It is nice 'cause Brian can get him and change him and lay him next to me. Anyway, that's all that's new from here.

Devynn, you can't rock him, swing him, cuddle him to sleep! You will have to do that every single nap, every single bed time.

Your baby should learn to fall asleep on their own. Didn't you read Baby Wise? I thought you wrote about it. The Baby Wise mentality - which I toally believe in, we did it with both kids, both are great sleepers - is that you eat, play, sleep. Always in that order.

He's too little to play, but aside from the middle of the night feeding, you should feed baby, stimulate baby, then put baby to bed. That way when baby wakes they are waking because they are hungry, not bored. Baby will learn to fall asleep on their own which means in the middle of the night when baby wakes up, they can put themselves back to sleep without crying. It also means they are having good sleep as they are tired, not just ate themselves to sleep or were cuddled or rocked into a state of sleep.

Anyway, parents do what they want to or what is working for them at the time but take a look back at your Baby Wise book and reread the part about the transition stages, the four-month old to one-year old time I think it is. That's when you'll be thankful for the Baby Wise way.

Yes, I read Babywise, and I'm doing the scheduling part consistently right now. We are getting VERY mixed opinions from people on the letting him fall asleep on his own. Most say they don't do that until they are 4 months old. We do eat, play and sleep right now (play is stimlating him). He does put himself back to sleep at night when he's not hungry. I've heard him wake up and then go back to sleep. I am still getting used to being a mom...we are working this out on our own and trying to implement the Babywise mentality. Thanks for your help!

Wow, where did that time go? I can't believe he's over a month. It seems like yesterday I was checking back ALLLL the time to see if there were any updates.

Glad to know he's enjoying the swing more. I'm completely guilty of it too. Ava falls asleep in there and then I transfer her to her crib. Ahhh, I swore I wouldn't do that with each one of my children, but I'm guilty of it for all of them. Oh well, I figure they are only this small once.

I like nursing the baby lying down too, it's more relaxing especially at night. Glad you updated.

PS. We need more pics :)

I don't think you can ever really regret rocking them to sleep, those are things that won't last forever. And even though it took years to get my son out of coming into the bedroom at night, sometimes I miss knowing that he still needed his mummy, because he sure didn't act that way during the day!

Is he not still sleeping through the night? I thought you had said he was. If he is I'm jealous!!

He sleeps through the night most of the time, like last night he slept from 12 to 8. If he does get up, it is usually at 2 and it is for a quick snack and then he's back to sleep. Don't get me wrong, we have had our nights where he is up countles times, but, for the most part, he sleeps through the night.
